One of the most magical times of year in DeFuniak Springs is the annual Christmas Reflections celebration at Lake DeFuniak. Each holiday season, thousands of lights illuminate the lake, surrounding homes, churches, and historic buildings, transforming the area into one of Northwest Florida’s most beloved Christmas destinations. The event traces its roots back to the 1980s and has grown into a cherished tradition that attracts visitors from throughout the Southeast.
Walking around the nearly perfect circular lake during Christmas Reflections is a favorite holiday tradition for my family. Visitors can enjoy spectacular light displays, festive decorations, carriage rides, seasonal events, and the warm sense of community that makes DeFuniak Springs special. The combination of historic architecture, small-town charm, and dazzling holiday lights creates a memorable experience that captures the spirit of the season. For many residents and visitors alike, Christmas Reflections is more than a holiday event—it’s a celebration of the history, traditions, and community pride that make DeFuniak Springs such a unique place to call home.
Local Tip: If you’re visiting during the holiday season, plan time to walk the entire lake at night. The reflections of the lights on the water create one of the most beautiful holiday displays in Florida.Type your paragraph here.

As the county seat of Walton County, DeFuniak Springs is known for its historic downtown district, Victorian architecture, beautiful spring-fed lake, and small-town charm. Aging Electrical Systems: Many older homes in DeFuniak Springs were built before modern electrical standards. Buyers should be aware of aging electrical panels, outdated wiring methods, and older electrical components.
Moisture Intrusion: Older homes and rural properties may experience moisture intrusion around windows, doors, crawlspaces, roof penetrations, and exterior wall coverings.
Roofing Concerns: Florida roofs are exposed to heat, storms, and heavy rainfall. Aging roof coverings, deteriorated sealants, damaged flashing, and deferred maintenance are common observations.
Historic Home Considerations: Historic homes often contain unique architectural features and building materials that may require specialized maintenance and repairs.
Deferred Maintenance: Some older homes and investment properties may show signs of deferred maintenance that should be evaluated prior to purchase.

One of my favorite places in DeFuniak Springs is the historic Walton-DeFuniak Library, located at 3 Circle Drive on the north side of beautiful Lake DeFuniak and Chipley Park. Opened in 1887, the library holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating library in Florida and remains in its original historic building today. The library was established during the early days of the Florida Chautauqua movement, when local residents recognized the need for educational and cultural resources in the growing community. Today, the Walton-DeFuniak Library continues to serve residents and visitors while preserving an important piece of Walton County history. Its charming architecture, lakeside setting, and rich heritage make it one of DeFuniak Springs’ most treasured landmarks and a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates history, learning, and community.
Defuniak Springs offers many properties with larger homesites, acreage, workshops, detached garages, barns, and other outbuildings. These properties often have additional features and systems that may not be present in a typical subdivision home.
Our standard home inspection can be upgraded to include additional structures and features such as:
✔ Detached Garages
✔ Workshops
✔ Storage Buildings
✔ Guest Houses
✔ Pole Barns
Because every rural property is unique, inspection fees may vary based on square footage, the age of the structure, the number of structures, and the scope of the inspection. Please discuss the property details when scheduling so we can customize the inspection to meet your needs.
